Tending the Temple

As we step into 2024, I’m taking a slightly different approach to the new year. Instead of setting specific resolutions, my focus will be on “tending the temple” – a commitment to caring for my body as a sacred gift from God, as taught in the Scriptures. This Biblical perspective on self-care transcends typical resolutions, guiding me towards a deeper, more holistic approach to health and wellness.

Embracing Our Bodies as Temples of the Holy Spirit
In line with 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, I recognize that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, a sacred vessel entrusted to me by God. This year, my care for this temple won’t be about hitting certain metrics or achieving fleeting goals; rather, it will be about honoring God through how I treat my body. This means making choices that reflect gratitude and respect for the Creator, whether it’s through nourishing food, regular exercise, adequate rest, or seeking proper medical care.

Seeking Wholeness in Body, Mind, and Spirit
2024 will be a year of seeking wholeness, as Jesus exemplified in His ministry. The Bible’s perspective on health integrates the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of our being. This year, I’ll strive to balance physical activity with times of rest and Sabbath, mirroring the Biblical teachings of restoration and harmony in our bodies.

Stewardship Over Strict Regimens
This year, I’m embracing stewardship over strict regimens. The Bible calls us to be stewards of all we’ve been given, including our physical selves. My approach will be nurturing and caring, avoiding extremes, and instead fostering a sustainable and balanced lifestyle that honors the body as a gift from God.

Community Support in the Journey
In 2024, I’ll lean on the strength of community, just as the early church did, to support and encourage a healthy lifestyle. The fellowship and communal activities within my faith community will serve as a source of motivation and accountability in maintaining a healthy approach to life.

Respecting Individuality
Recognizing that each of us is a unique part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-27), my journey will be personal and tailored to my own body’s needs. I’ll listen to my body and respond to its specific requirements, understanding that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to health and wellness.

A Lifelong Commitment
Finally, 2024 is not the end goal but a part of a lifelong commitment to health and well-being. Just as our spiritual journey requires perseverance and consistency, so does the care for our physical temple. I’ll adapt and adjust my approach as needed, always to honor God through this physical vessel.

In essence, this year is about a deeper, more meaningful commitment to health – one that goes beyond resolutions and targets. It’s about living out the Biblical teaching that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, deserving of care and respect, not just for our benefit, but as an act of worship and gratitude to the One who created us.
